Wildlife Rehabilitator Exam and License

The rehabilitator exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. It is offered statewide in the spring at most regional DEC offices. It is also offered every fall at the annual conference of the New York State Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (NYSWRC).

The annual state examinations for the Wildlife Rehabilitators License and Falconry Apprentice License will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at DEC Regional Offices statewide. Applications to register for the exams are due no later than April 6, 2012.

Study Materials: To obtain the study materials for the exam, send a check or money order for $15 with a note stating your request to the NYSDEC Special Licenses Unit (address available below).

Please note:

  • Native wildlife may not be kept as pets in New York State.
  • This license expires annually on December 31.
